On January 10th 2012 President Jaroch and myself attended a hearing at the State of Illinois building. The meeting was a hearing to allow Peoples Gas the AMRP – ICR rider that we supported back in 2009.
A ruling in the courts previous to this hearing overturned the rider ICR, and since has put the AMRP project in jeopardy along with the many benefits it provides to you as a member. I testified in front of the five commissioners on what this project has meant to us as a membership since its start. The AMRP project has created well over 100 upgrades, 100 jobs currently and many more in the near future .
I testified in support of the rider for the the many positives that the AMRP project has brought to you as a membership. Many members are enjoying financial success, that will prepare them for a very prosperous retirement. It has allowed the membership to grow in advance of technology that has depleted our membership for many years. It also has provided the public a critical component for putting a new upgraded Natural Gas system that will provide a safer more reliable delivery of Natural Gas.
There were many special interest groups who testified against the AMRP Rider, many with legitimate testimony. However the leadership of this local has been proactive in finding any and all protections for your health and welfare, this was a easy choice for the Executive board to make coming out in support of the rider.
The ominous cloud of uncertainty in this economy for your Job, benefits, and future of this localwas a gamble we can not take , it simply was the right thing to do for the good of all the membership. A copy of the testimony can be found on the ICC website Natrual Gas tab.
